This is a leadership role with direct and indirect management responsibility for both members of staff and consultants who are key to the successful delivery of the Major Projects Programme. Reporting to the Head of Major Projects, you will be responsible for the leadership and management of the Major Projects Delivery Office Engineering team to drive best value de-risked solutions from project feasibility through solution development, engineering design and construction; ensuring successful delivery through to handover and transfer to operational BAU. You will drive the development and continuous improvement in the technical delivery of projects and be a key influencer in adapting how we best apply technical solutions and standards consistently across the Major Project Programme, safely and for best value and purpose. You will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered to time, cost and quality objectives as well as ensuring strong health, safety and wellbeing culture is adopted. You will be responsible for setting and implementing strategies for the necessary investigations that provide a clear understanding of all aspects of risk and deliverability, including existing asset performance and integration. You will be accountable for leading technology development and delivery of the Major Projects programme of circa £700m. Key responsibilities for the role include: Lead all technical aspects of the complex Major Projects Programme from a business need including business case development, feasibility, optimised technical solution development, governance, contract development, procurement, design and construction delivery. Develop and deliver optimised project solutions that align to business needs that achieve all regulatory, statutory and internal outputs, deadlines and targets. Drive value through technical leadership that leads to an optimal project and programme outcomes for Thames Water. Deliver successful technical solutions that provide optimal value for money on capital and whole life cost basis. Performance manages the service providers to ensure the out-performance of service levels and value for money. Clearly identify key project risks and issues and identify strategies the proactively manage project risk to minimise the final impact, delivering the best most efficient value. Establish and continuously promote proactive health, safety & environment culture across Thames Water and our service providers. Achieve leading-edge performance in safe and sustainable delivery of capital projects, as well as their subsequent operation and maintenance. Maintain a strong external stakeholder relationship to actively protect and enhancing Thames Water’s reputation to external customers. Be seen as a leader in the successful delivery of major complex schemes and manage, lead and develop people in a culture of accountability and achievement. Encourage and implement an innovation from supply chain to develop a continuous improvement project culture. To be successful you will have the following skills and experience: Educated to degree level with further professional/management qualifications or outstanding role-specific experience. Excellent contractual awareness of major programme management work and contracts. Proven track record of managing the performance of third-party organisations. Proven track record of success in the delivery of significant capital programmes at a senior level. Strong commercial approach with a good level of contract knowledge. Base decisions on a balance of business development and cost control issues. Ability to take on leadership responsibility in different functions/businesses and led through difficult times. Proven process improvement design and implementation capability. Ability to develop and implement feedback systems to improve business performance. Can deliver tough messages with empathy. Consistently outperforms against stretch targets and can demonstrate a tangible drive to continue to outperform. A balanced, realistic approach to pressure, always maintains a positive outlook in front of others. Ability to demonstrate exposure to risk decisions with implications wider than own area.
