The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a full-time Network Engineer in the Bureau of Technology Development and Systems. Reporting directly to the Deputy Director of Networking, the successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert on topics related to network infrastructure, network virtualization. He/she will be responsible for the review, design and administrative support of the Fire Department’s (FDNY’s) data communications infrastructure. Prepare/validate system configurations and management support documentation. Will participate in the development and review of technical specifications for the procurement of relevant IT systems and services, including the evaluation of vendor submissions solicited via bids, requests for information and proposals. Provide quality control and oversight on IT infrastructure projects. Work as part of multi-discipline teams to plan, define, and maintain standards and guidelines for efficiency, security, reuse, interoperability, consistency. Define optimal performance levels for infrastructure components and ensures that all levels are met. Provide oversight/supervision of City and third party/vendor resources during network infrastructure build-outs, changes, maintenance and troubleshooting. Minimum Qual Requirements 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24 credits in the field of voice and/or data telecommunications or in a pertinent scientific, technical, electronic or related area, and four years of satisfactory fulltime experience in the performance of analytical, planning, operational, technical, or administrative duties in a voice and/or data telecommunications or closely related electronics planning, management, and/or service organization, one year of which must have been in a highly specialized capacity and 18 months must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity or in the supervision of staff performing work in the voice and/or data telecommunications field; or 2. An associate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12 credits in the field of voice and/or data telecommunications or in a pertinent, scientific, technical, electronic or related area and five years of experience as described in "1" above; or 3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of the specialized experience as described in "1" above and must possess the 18 months of executive, managerial, administrative or supervisory experience as described in "1" above. Preferred Skills The selected candidate should possess following skills and background: Cisco CCNP Route, Switch, CCNP Security or higher with Wide Area Networking experience, Total comprehension of modern network systems and network platforms (virtualization and software defined technologies) . Experience with load balancers and wireless networking. Ability to use modern network troubleshooting and monitoring tools. Ability to translate client requirements into technical specifications. Total comprehension of all components and sub-components of data network infrastructures.
