We currently have a great opportunity for a Postdoctoral Scientist to join our Proteomic and Mass spectrometry Group in the Analytical and Biological Sciences Division of NIBSC. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research. The agency is made up of c.1300 staff working across two main centres and peripatetically across the UK and abroad. A centre of the agency The National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC) is a global leader in the characterisation, standardisation and control of biological medicines. NIBSC plays a major role in assuring the quality of biological medicines worldwide through the provision of biological reference materials, by testing products and carrying out research. Our expert scientists also provide advice on a routine basis and in response to emergencies. NIBSC is committed to undertaking a unique programme of research to support its mission in protecting public health. Some of the key responsibilities of this role include: Responsibility for production of Neisseria gonorrhoeae outer membrane vesicles in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Oxford. Establishing proteomic workflows for Neisseria gonorrhoeae outer membrane vesicles using Thermo Orbitrap and triple quadrupole mass spectrometers. Leading day to day experimental work and data analysis, including enzymatic digestions, sample fractionation and multi-dimensional LC separations. Interacting with internal and external partners, for example, communicate project progress to colleagues and collaborators, liaise with Oxford University colleagues on production of Neisseria gonorrhoeae outer membrane vesicles and other materials, and present reports to the Principal Investigator and the Wellcome Trust. The role holder will hold a PhD in a relevant subject, such as microbiology, immunology, or proteomics. The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of bacterial pathogenicity and an understanding of bacterial vaccines with proven skills. You will have a track record of publication in leading scientific journals and the ability to interpret complex scientific data, with experience of using and working with a range of computer software including word processing, presentation and data analysis software. You must also have excellent communication skills, the ability to effectively manage research projects, as well as good organizational skills and the capacity to work as part of a team.
