Position Summary The HR Generalist primary function will be to support all HR and payroll activities for two sister companies based in Canada (Ontario & Alberta) with a total headcount around 100 employees (plus temps). This position is responsible for coordinating activities to support all areas of human capital management including payroll processing, recruitment and development, benefits administration, labour law compliance, performance management and goal setting, and employee relations. The HR Generalist acts as an agent of change, working alongside Management to establish a high performing and engaging culture that both aligns with corporate strategy and enhances the organizational capability and effectiveness of the organization’s employee talent. Job Description Core responsibilities will include the following areas: Canadian payroll processing, administration, and reporting for 2 separate entities (same payroll system). Maintains a human resource information system that meets the organization's personnel information and reporting needs. Administers all Canadian employee benefits programs. Recommends benefit additions/changes as necessary based on industry and national trends. Coordinates the development and implementation of a positive, responsible employee relations program. Works directly with the VP, HR to handle employees’ needs and issues. Reviews, coordinates, and, as necessary, carries out employee discipline procedures including verbal and written warnings, performance improvement plans, and termination procedures. Responsible for guiding and coaching Managers through the discipline process including providing talking points, coordinating proper documentation and upholding consistency throughout the organization. Builds and maintains a strong, functional team through an effective recruiting and hiring process. Ensure applicants are pre-screened and that qualified candidates are provided to Hiring Managers for selection process. Performs background and reference checks for final candidate(s). Works with Managers to seek final hiring approval from Department Heads. Manages and oversees Canadian employee on-boarding and orientation programs. Coordinates the annual Performance Review process including providing Managers and Department Heads with feedback and guidance on writing reviews, staff development and skills training, and career planning/mapping. Assisting with filing Worker’s Compensation claims with the WSIB in Ontario and WCB in Alberta. Other duties as assigned. Position Requirements BA/BS in HR, Business, Psychology, or related degree required with 3-5 years HR field experience. Heavily focused in the areas of full cycle payroll, benefits administration, and Canadian labour law enforcement (in Ontario & Alberta). Prior payroll processing experience required. Knowledge of federal and provincial employment and labour laws including, but not limited to, Ontario & Alberta. Ability to work in the strictest sense of privacy and confidentiality. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability and experience communicating and building relationships with all levels of employee talent from warehouse personnel to executive leadership. Strong attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Strong leadership, coaching, and critical thinking skills. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously and excel in a fast-paced, ever changing, entrepreneurial environment. Experience within the Logistics/Supply Chain industry a plus. Commitment to excellence and dedicated to continuous improvement. Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook). Experience with Payroll & HRIS systems, time & attendance systems, and compensation and benefits systems/online platforms. Flexibility to work mornings, nights, and weekends (as required) to meet commitments and deliverables. Travel required on a semi-regular basis (10-15%). Passport / ability to enter US for meetings required. Job Type: Full-time Salary: $60,000.00 to $70,000.00 /hour Experience: Payroll: 1 year (Required) Human Resources: 3 years (Preferred)
