The role We are looking for a Production Engineer to join our team in Royston, Hertfordshire. As Production Engineer you will contribute to production engineering, in support of the Operations function in accordance with B&K quality processes within defined timescales. You will be responsible for providing engineering input to mechanical processing and assembly within the factory and support for maintaining existing product. Further you will provide support to other business areas to meet internal and external customer needs as required by the business. Responsibilities In this role you will be responsible for the following activities: Supporting the Production Engineering Team Leader and other team members Production Engineering support for Lean Six Sigma Manufacturing improvements. Value mapping the processes to remove unnecessary waste. Corrective action implementation responsibility for immediate fix and longer-term solutions of production problems. Ensuring all processes, documentation, systems are continually up to date, improved/maintained & new products are introduced into manufacturing with relevant controls in place to assure safety, quality and to meet demand. Ensuring that the specification of the design is produced in the manufacturing environment through instructions, processes, D.F.M, equipment and training. The maintenance of existing Manufacturing Mechanical Processes. The timely delivery of tasks and commitments to agreed plans and accurate reporting of progress to project plans. In collaboration with the R & D Team, provide manufacturing input and guidance at the design phase of NPI, to avoid delays in Release for Manufacture. Create BOMs, routings test procedures and build instructions as required. Hands on fault finding on mechanical based problems on components, assemblies and systems. Provide guidance on specifying mechanical components, including hydraulic, pneumatic and structural, especially alternatives due to obsolescence. Specifying and providing justifications for new tooling, plant and equipment. Completing and managing the implementation of Engineering Change Orders. Qualifications and technical competencies A Bachelor’s Degree (BEng or BSc) in a mechanical discipline or technical equivalent; or 10 years related experience and/or training in manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 5 years minimum related experience in similar Production Engineering role with strong mechanical experience. Understanding of project management (experience preferred). Excellent understanding of modern manufacturing processes and Lean methodology. Strong problem solving and fault-finding skills. Good understanding of drawings and schematics. Desirable: - CAD systems e.g. Solidworks. Knowledge of various quality system methodologies 8D, Lean, 5 Why’s, Pareto Analysis, Six Sigma, DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, etc where appropriate. Must have a valid driver’s licence in good standing and the ability to travel abroad. Personal Competencies Excellent spoken and written English with proven and effective communication skills. The ability to work constructively within a team and with other areas of the business. The ability to diligently and methodically focus on tasks with a clear sense of urgency. Cooperative attitude able to work with managers and peers to support the needs of the business. Meeting commitments with the highest standards of ethics and integrity.
