The Position: Arch LMI Pty Ltd (“Arch LMI”) is an APRA-regulated provider of Lenders Mortgage Insurance (“LMI”). Arch LMI is a subsidiary of Arch Capital Group Ltd (“ACGL”), which is a NASDAQ-listed global provider of insurance and reinsurance across a number of risk categories. The Actuary is a key member of Arch LMI’s Finance team, which is responsible for a variety of finance and actuarial functions. Duties of the Actuary include: Analysis and reporting of LMI product performance across all risk categories, including analysis of premium adequacy, loan arrears and claims Undertaking capital projections and capital monitoring Developing and maintaining pricing and reserving models Supporting the CFO and Chief Risk Officer (“CRO”) in managing Arch LMI’s Risk Management Framework (“RMF”) Engaging with APRA, the external Appointed Actuary and Appointed Auditor and other stakeholders Engaging with the Arch Group risk management, actuarial and other staff Monitoring and analysing external macroeconomic trends, mortgage market and LMI developments including those related to regulatory reform Working with Arch LMI’s lender customers as required Supporting Arch LMI’s management information systems and data Engaging with ratings agencies Participating in and managing ad-hoc project work as required Job Responsibilities: Procure/ develop and maintain models including: Mortgage credit risk assessment and loss forecasting models Loan delinquency and default models Pricing models Financial projection and capital models Support the CFO and CRO in managing relevant components of Arch LMI’s RMF, including portfolio risk reporting, risk analyses, ICAAP, stress testing and scenario analysis Support the CFO in discharging Arch LMI’s internal and external reporting obligations, including regulatory reporting to APRA Contribute to reviews of strategy and business planning Support the business as required in developing new LMI products Assist in the management of external stakeholder relationships, including attending to regular and ad-hoc requests for information from regulators and ratings agencies Support a strong management information system and data management framework Work with other ACGL companies to ensure compliance with Group policies and inter-company arrangements Manage staff to accomplish results through effective recruitment, selection, training, development, performance management and recognition. Participate in ad-hoc project work Required Skills/Experience: Knowledge and Skills: Strong knowledge of APRA prudential standards applying to general insurers and LMI Solid understanding of Australian GAAP accounting for insurance and reinsurance Working knowledge of other regulatory capital standards and risk management frameworks (e.g. Solvency II and APRA bank regulation) Demonstrated ability to deliver results under tight deadlines and competing objectives Strong technical and analytical skills Strong communication skills in written and verbal formats; ability to address broad range of audiences including senior management, external stakeholders and technical experts Credibility among industry peers Focus on client and customer service Strong inter-personal skills and willingness/ ability to function as member of a multi-disciplined, international team Commercially focused Bias towards action and self-directed Unquestionable integrity and moral compass Strong intellectual curiosity Proficient with Microsoft Office products and advanced Excel skills Education: Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (or equivalent) with 5+ years of post-Fellowship experience Must have prior experience working in APRA regulated industries Qualification as a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary (CERA) is desirable but not essential Prior experience in general insurance is preferred Experience in LMI and/or banking is useful but not essential Experience working within a bank’s or insurer’s Risk Management Framework is desirable.
