Department/division introduction The Customer Experience and Engagement Division (CEE) was established to draw together the many different aspects of student support services from across the institution in order to achieve an integrated and collaborative institutional response to students. The three driving themes for the Division are Access, Engagement and Success. The Division is made up of units, each with their own area of specialisation, but all addressing these three core areas. Student Services work collaboratively across the Division and institution to enhance the overall student experience, student wellbeing and academic and vocational success. As well as the generic supports available for all Ara students, it is the responsibility of the Division to facilitate specialist interventions to support target groups in line with the Ara strategic goals and key Government targets, including; Maori, Pasifika, Youth (under 25 years), International and refugee and migrant students. Academic Support The Academic Support department consists of the Learning Services, Disability Services and the Library teams. Learning Services provides quality academic support to a diverse group of students in a supportive environment in order to ensure the highest level of graduate outcomes. Learning Services works towards equity of access for all students, and is particularly committed to supporting targeted engagement, retention and successful outcomes for Māori and Pasifika, International and Youth. Learning Services applies its expertise in knowledge management and access, teaching and learning pedagogy, information and academic literacies, numeracy and inclusive education to provide a client focussed service for students and staff. Learning Services also supports institutional capability in literacy and numeracy. Disability Services works to remove barriers to learning for students. Through its focus on the learning experiences of students with disabilities, and in collaboration with academic and student services staff, Disability Services contributes towards Ara providing accessible and inclusive learning experiences for all students so they can achieve more successful graduate outcomes. The Library is located within the Academic Support stream of CEE which works in partnership with departments and divisions to support Ara Institute of Canterbury’s educational objectives and student success. The Library Team is responsible for delivering the Library’s collection services including lending and circulation, technical services (acquisitions, cataloguing, serials management), Alma technical support, interloans, and services delivered in the Library or online. Prime function/purpose of the job To provide Maths/Numeracy learning support that is responsive to diverse student needs, both face-to-face and to those students studying in blended and distance learning environments, including students in targeted cohorts and with specific learning disabilities. To create positive and supportive academic learning environments (including small groups, classes, 1:1 and flexible learning environments) using effective teaching and learning strategies that support positive student outcomes. To work collaboratively with academic staff to ensure that academic numeracies are developed appropriate to the graduate profile, in a timely and contextualised manner. Staff are asked to develop a professional development plan with their Manager that aligns with the Ara Academic Capability Framework. 4 Health and Safety The Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 provides that a duty is imposed on a person under the Bill to ensure health and safety. This requires the person to eliminate risks to health and safety so far as is reasonably practicable and; if it is not practicable to eliminate risks to health and safety, to minimise those risks so far as is reasonably practicable. This includes but is not limited to programme/course/lesson plans, course descriptors, notes, assignments, tests, evaluations. 6 Employment Terms and Conditions Appointments are made within the terms of the Employment Relations Act 2000 (as amended) and the terms and conditions provided either in an Individual employment Agreement (IEA) or in terms of the applicable Collective Employment Agreement (CEA) which also has coverage over this position. At Ara, the applicable CEAs which cover the terms and conditions of employment for academic staff members are the Association of Academic Staff at Canterbury (AASC) and the Tertiary Education Union (TEU). With an increasing focus on youth in particular and the additional pastoral care this involves Ara Management have determined that best practice involves all staff undergoing a criminal conviction history check.
